Trustees

Late B. G. Deshmukh  (Founder Trustee)

Late B. G. Deshmukh was a senior IAS officer and held various posts in government including Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra; Chairman of the Governing Board of the International Labor Organization; Secretary, Labor and Rehabilitation, Government of India; Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; Municipal Commissioner of Bombay; Secretary to Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

After his retirement, he was a Chairman, President, Trustee and Director of various organizations, and NGOs, like KEM Hospital Pune, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (Prince of Wales Museum), Mohalla Committee Movement Trust, and many more. He has written books like 'A Cabinet Secretary Thinks Aloud', 'A Cabinet Secretary Looks Around', 'Poona to Prime Minister's Office', and 'A Cabinet Secretary Looks Back'.

Mr. J. F. Ribeiro   (Founder Trustee)

J. F. Ribeiro graduated in Commerce and Law from Mumbai University. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1953 and rose to be the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai from February 1982 to May 1985. Later he served in quick succession as Director General – Central Reserve Police, Director General of Police-Gujarat, Special Secretary to the Government of India's Home Ministry, Director General of Police – Punjab and finally Advisor to the Governor of Punjab.

Besides other awards, he is the recipient of the Padma Bhushan in 1987. Post Retirement, he was appointed as Ambassador to Romania where he served for four years from 1989 to 1993. The then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee had asked him to be Governor of Jammu & Kashmir but he declined because of his involvement in social work in his native city of Mumbai. He heads the Mohalla Ekta Committee, which seeks to bring about communal harmony between the diverse communities in the city of Mumbai.

Dr. R. K. Anand  (Founder Trustee)

Dr. R. K. Anand, MD (Pediatrics), FRCP (Edinburgh), DCH (London), is the Senior-most pediatrician, and was also the Medical Director at Jaslok Hospital and Research Center, Mumbai. An internationally recognized pediatrician, Dr. Anand was honored with the Fellowship at the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and at the Royal College Physicians, Edinburgh, for his contributions in the field of pediatric education, research and child care.

As the former Professor of Pediatrics at the T. N. Medical College and B. Y. L. Nair Charitable Hospital, Dr. Anand has supervised and guided several research projects, and trained many young pediatricians who have distinguished themselves in India and abroad. He has been an advisor and a resource person for childcare programs with International organizations like UNICEF, Consumers' International, International Baby Food Action Network, and World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) also with Health Action International. He is the founder – president of the Association for Consumers Action on Safety and Health (ACASH).

Mr. Dara Gandhy founder Trustee of "Friends of Moral Re – Armament (India)" Trust, has also worked as General Manager Marketing and Sales of an international trading / agency company largely responsible for converting the Indian Auto Tubes market from natural rubber tubes to Butyl tubes.


Educated at Cathedral and John Connon High School, Bombay, and clearing Senior Cambridge (SLC) in first class, he graduated with B.Com degree from Sydenham College, Mumbai University.

» The Chamber of Income-Tax Consultants for two years – 1989-90 and 1990-91.

Presently, he was a member of :

Mr. Sanjeev Dayal

Mr. Sanjeev Dayal joined IPS in 1977 and after training worked as ASP at Nanded. On promotion worked as Additional SP Nashik, DCP Mumbai, SP Latur, SP Nanded, Assistant Director IB and then SP Amravati before being promoted as DIG when he worked as Addl. CP Mumbai and then DIG SPG. Later after promotion as IG SPG, Joint Commissioner Mumbai and then Director MPA. On promotion as Addl. DG worked in office of DGP first as Additional DGP Law and Order and then Addl DG Special Operations.

He was appointed as CP Mumbai in May 2010 and remained in that post till Feb 2011 when he was promoted as DG and MD Police Housing Corporation and then as DG ACB.
He was appointed as DGP Maharashtra on 31 July 2012 and remained on that post till his superannuation on 30th September 2015.

Dr. Ratna Magotra

Dr. Ratna Magotra is a practicing pediatric cardiac surgeon at Smt. S. R. Mehta & Sir K. P. Cardiac Institute in Mumbai. Ratna Magotra did her M.B.B.S. from Delhi University and earned her post-graduate degree of M.S. in General Surgery and M.S. in Cardio Thoracic Surgery from Bombay University. She received overseas training at Guy's Hospital in London and Texas Heart Institute in Houston, USA, specializing in Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.

She was the head of the Department of Cardio-Vascular Surgery at the G. S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital and opted for early retirement in 2000, after having made substantial contributions to making the CVTS department as one of the top ten in the country. She has occupied several positions in the academic field and on selection boards at several universities in the country.

She has been actively associated with the Foundation of the Medical Research, Sane Guruji Manav Seva Sangh in Amrawati and is currently on the board of Gram Seva Trust, Gujarat.

Having had a brilliant academic career, she was recognized with National Merit Scholarship and several awards, most noteworthy being Americares India's Spirit of Humanity award in Cardiovascular Surgery Category (2011), K.N. Dastur Oration (2010), Special Award of Appreciation for Contributions to Rural Surgery (1999), Dr. Jal R. Vakil Memorial Award (1994) and Special prize from Nehru Foundation, New Delhi for Academic Achievements (1979). She is passionate about Rural Health Care in India, Paradoxes in health care in India and Socio-political or current affairs.

Mr. S. S. Puri

Mr. S. S. Puri has done his M.A.(Philosophy) and also holds an L.L.B. degree. He joined the IPS opting for Maharashtra cadre. He served as a Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police. During his field postings, communal disturbances were put down with a heavy hand, reflecting his concern for a secular polity as also the maintenance of peace and order.

He constantly updated his study of the law while attending several professional courses at National Police Academy (Hyderabad), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai), Indian Institute of Public Administration (New Delhi) and Administrative Staff College of India (Hyderabad).

This combination of practical experience and an academic bent of mind were evident in his seminal contribution to the drafting of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act of 1999.

He held many important posts and made a mark in each of the assignments. An outstanding feature of his career has been uncovering cases of corruption as Chief Vigilance Officer of the Mumbai Port Police and his efforts resulted in the indictment of several Heads of Departments. Mr. Prasad Chandran is a Graduate in Chemistry (Honors) from Bombay University. Mr. Chandran has also completed the Advanced Business Management education from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania; and AOTS, Tokyo University, Japan.

He serves as Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of BASF India Ltd. and associate Chairman of BASF Asia Pacific (India) Pvt. Ltd.Mr. Chandran held senior and responsible positions in marketing, commercial and operational functions. He was the Chairman of Ciba India Ltd since August 14, 2009. He was Chairman of the Board of Pushpa Polymers. He served as the Chairman of the Board of BASF Coatings Private Limited and BASF Styrenics Private Limited.

He has been an Independent Non Executive Director of Bosch Ltd. since January 1, 2009. He serves as a Director of BASF Catalysts (India) Pvt. Ltd., BASF Lanka Private Ltd., BASF Bangladesh Ltd. and BASF Grameen Ltd. He was Director of BASF Polyurethanes India Limited. He serves as Vice President of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Chandran serves as the Co-Chairman of the National Committee on Chemicals and Petrochemicals of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). He has been a Director of HDFC Standard Life Insurance Co., Ltd. since April 25, 2014.

Mr. Chandran is actively involved through TERI with the National Action Plan on Climate Change. He currently heads the Industry Task Force for Sustainable Agriculture and Green India.

A Post graduate in physics, Shri M.R.Reddy joined Indian Police Service ( IPS ) in 1967 and was allotted to Maharashtra cadre, where he worked in a number of districts / cities as Superintendent of Police / Deputy Commissioner of Police handling Law & Order, Crime, Personnel Management and General Administration. After a highly successful tenure in Maharashtra, he went on deputation to Government of India and served in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in various capacities handling Intelligence, Industrial / VIP security and Counter Terrorism. He went on deputation to Cabinet Secretariat to set up Special Protection Group (SPG) for ensuring the protection of Prime Minister and his family members. He head SPG as Director and successfully handled the visit of the Prime Minister to a number of foreign countries including Pakistan and visit to Kargil during the active war with Pakistan.

On completion of tenure, he was posted in Germany in the Indian Embassy as Minister handling International Terrorism. He has retired from IPS in 2004. He was awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service (IPM) and Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM ) in recognition of his valuable services.

After retirement, he has joined GMR Group, as Advisor, Security & Vigilance. He has set up a premier Security Services Company, Raxa Security Services Ltd., Bangalore, a GMR Group company and head the company as the Managing Director. Raxa is a pioneer in improving professionalism in private security, which is vital for safety / security of major Infrastructure projects in the country, especially those of Public-Private Participation. He has retired as Managing Director in 2011 and continues as Advisor, Security / Vigilance for the Group.

Opinions

Recent political trends in the country have clearly shown that the people, particularly the youth, are disgusted with the level of corruption prevailing in the society at all levels and in all spheres of life. Youth must come out strongly against such corruption which is destroying our moral fabric and weakening our moral fiber. To begin with youth must understand what are the means available to them to stand up against corruption and oppose it. The PCGTs 'Kuch Aur' programme targets school children so that they inculcate proper values and learn to detest wrong doing including corruption while the "Youth for Governance"programme targets college students to stand up for their rights.
